Sharing my notes on zipper (Tutorial?)

Nak buat tutorial, tapi terasa masih kurang berkelayakan lagi, tapi nak jugak sharing my notes in making a bag with zipper closure.

To a beginner (like me)... hopefully you can learn something from my notes. This is not a comprehensive one, u need to experience it yourself, then you know how it works

The those experts (ops.. rarely people claimed that they are an expert kan...) ok ok, I rephrase.. to those who are familiar with attaching zipper to bag, please.. please... leave a comment if anything that can improvised my notes here. I really appreciate that.

Reminder : This is not a bag tutorial, therefore no exact measure of the bag given.

What u need are:

•  the zipper attached to the fabric. You can refer to the tutorial from Creative Cutie here. Beg saya ni lebar 4 inci, jadinya fabric attached to zipper tuh 4 inci jugak lah (2 inch+2 inch), panjang untuk kain plak bergantung pada lebar beg, contohnya 4 inci, so panjang bag minus 4 inci lah. (ada faham tak eks...ayat yang sungguh berbelit2.. so sorry)
• The bag body (normally 2 pieces, but mine was 1 piece, folded)
• The upper lining, 2 pieces - fabric is the same as the body - The size of the upper lining depends on how deep in your zipper. Mine was 2.5 inch inclusive of the seam allowance
• The lower lining - you fabric of choice, the size was actually the length of the body minus the upper lining and dont forget the seam allowances

Mark the centre of the upper lining, lower lining and the zipper. Pin it together and sew it.



The outcome will be something like this

Then attached the other side of the lining. Repeat the same process

Then you will get the lining of the bag, attached together with the zipper in the middle

Then sew the lining and the body together - Reminder : you need to attach the strap first before this step

You will get something like this, and sew the bag as in the picture

Terbalik kan bag, and top stitch keliling bag untuk lebih kemas

Tadaaa.. dah jadi pon..

Inilah dia hasil usaha buat notes hari ni.. horey horey.. another bag in black. cantik tak? Zoom skit kat bag bottom tuh... dah berjaya buat triangle yang kemas sekali.. opsss angkat bakul sudah. Beg ini berukuran 12x11x4 inch. Muatlah nak isi telekung kee.. buku2 sekolah or apa2 ajelah.

I am in happy mood today as Izzah has started to know how to float herself and swim. She can swim about 2 or 3 meters, but not more than that. But I am so impressed with the progress...because we just on our 4th session, and teaching by a non-pro swimmer.. ME hahaha

Here I wanted to share with you on how to do your own make up bag..

Things that we need (measurement in inch):

2 pieces Outer Fabric =8.5 x 5.5

2 pieces Lining fabric =8.5 x 7

Bag bottom =8.5 x 3.5

1 piece lining fabric for pocket =8.5 x 4 (Optional)

Bag bottom fabric about 6 x 1.5 for zipper end closure

Zipper + Zipper head

Thin batting

Sew the bag body to the bag bottom, then measure  & cut your batting. I usually didnot precut the batting as I dont want it to waste incase of overize or under.

Then top stich the joining together with batting at the back

Add some texture to the bag body by simple quilt.

Attach the pocket to the ling fabric

I added a handmade label and a ribbon here, embellish as you wish :)

Measure the zipper: the zipper should at least smaller that the length of the bag by 1/2 inch. Here it should be 8 inch

Put in the zipper head and cut a piece of fabric that can bind the zipper end. Hope the picture well explained my bad wording here LOL

Fold the zipper end and sew on top if it.

Make it on both sides

The attached the zipper to the bag body and the lining

Top stitch the zipper, but up only to the zipper end, not till the end of the body fabric.

Then attached the other side to the zipper

Top sttich it, sorry but here its a bit difficult to do, because its in a small hole of the bag body.

Now fold in the one inside the red-green box below (I will show in the next picture on how to fold it.

Sew through the red line and leave a small hole at the bottom of the bag lining.

Fold the bag bottom like this and sew on top of it

Make sure not to sew the zipper end here..

On the bag lining, measure about 2.5 inch and sew it

Turn the bag inside out through the small hole on the lining, and close the opening on the bag lining bottom

Tadaaa... here is the outcome.. I put in a wristlet with a swivel clasp to the zipper.

Lunch Bag

I am looking for something that can fit my tupperware... a square bottom bag is the best answer for it and something like the Noriko bag pattern is very much easier to sew.

So semalam saya try buat satu square bottom boxy bag, saya panggil boxy sebab ianya ada iras2 kotak skit hehehe

So here is the pattern.. sorry  for no printable pattern, it just that I dont know how to attached a pdf pattern here hahaha silly me.. plus malas nak cari.. but the detail measurement is here, you can draw it on your own..

You need to cut:

4 Outer fabric

4 Lining fabric

4 thin batting

And 2 bag strap : 16 inch each

Susun fabric luar, lining & batting, then jahit dari atas sampai bottom of the bag.

You will get something like this, then buat untuk another couple

Cantumkan kedua-duanya, saya jahit dari bawah, supaya the bottom match together

Ok.. dah siap body untuk bag kita.. cepatkan

then boleh proceed jahit untuk lining, sama jer mcm body

Lekatkan button & bag strap, dan cantumkan lining dan bag body

Dah siap tuh, top stitch keliling bag jadilah camniii, ops lekatkan butang jangan lupa yerr

Kalau nak simpan, kecik jer jadinya...

Jom pergi piknik.. hehee

Thinking of a smaller pattern, boleh isi lunch pack kan...
